Rebuilding Black Families
Strengthening Our Foundation for Future Generations through family empowerment, economic stability, and community support.
Back to Focus AreasOur Mission
At We The Black Voters, we believe that strong Black families are the foundation of thriving Black communities. Our mission is to restore, empower, and uplift Black families by providing the resources, education, and support needed to foster stability, economic prosperity, and generational success.
Why Rebuilding Black Families Matters
Over the past six decades, the structure of Black families has undergone significant changes. In 1960, approximately 78% of Black children lived in two-parent households. However, by 2023, only 42% of Black children lived with both parents, while nearly 50% were in single-parent households—the highest rate among all racial groups.
Additionally, the percentage of Black children born to unmarried mothers has increased from 25% in 1960 to over 70% today. These shifts have profound economic and social implications, contributing to cycles of poverty, limited access to resources, and disparities in educational and career opportunities.
However, despite these challenges, Black families have always been resilient. Through targeted initiatives and strong community engagement, we can rebuild, strengthen, and empower Black families to create a future of stability, prosperity, and generational wealth.
